The Border Terrier was bred to follow the hunt across hard country and still be small enough to go to ground after a fox. Its reconstructed ancestry combines Bedlington, Dandie Dinmont and old fell-terrier stock. It later contributed to the Patterdale line and survives as a popular working and companion terrier.
