The Cavalier was deliberately revived to recover the longer-muzzled toy spaniel seen in older British paintings. Its reconstructed line combines King Charles Spaniel ancestry with older sporting toy spaniels. It survives as a popular companion and is also one parent behind the Cavachon and Cavapoo.
