The Great Dane grew from the old German boarhounds, which mixed a mastiff's strength with a sighthound's long legs for speed when hunting dangerous wild boar. In our family tree, its ancestors include the old German boarhounds and the Ancient Molossers. Today it is a gentle giant, much calmer than its hunting past. Tap a circle inside to keep digging.
