The Whippet was developed as a smaller racing and rabbiting sighthound, fast enough for competition but practical for working-class owners. Its reconstructed ancestry combines Greyhound, black-and-tan terrier and Italian Greyhound influence. It later fed Longdog, terrier and toy-terrier lines while surviving as a popular modern breed.
